Automobility LA - Here comes the CUV
First, did you know that the LA Auto show is now called Automobility LA? Cool! The influential show,is often the stage for U.S. introductions of vehicles first shown at European auto shows in the months prior, This year’s show, follows recent industry trends, expanding past product to include mobility and its position in the wider automotive industry. Many of the new product introductions are skewed towards the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV). CUV introductions are shaping to dominate the event with more force than ever, addressing a range of sizes and prices. Manufacturers ranging from Alfa Romeo to Honda, Mazda, Mini and Jeep all introduced new models. Mini brings its largest product to date in the second-generation Countryman. The Honda, Mazda and Jeep products, as well as the Mini Countryman to an extent, all compete in the same segment. Chevrolet revealed its all-new Equinox in September, off the show circuitAlfa Romeo will introduce its third new vehicle as part of Alfa Romeo’s reentry in the U.S., and arguably its most important product for the U.S. market. The new entry, rumored to be called Stelvio, will take a platform from the Giulia compact sedan and is expected to offer the 2.0-litre engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission from the standard Giulia; in the Giulia the powertrain offers 280 horsepower.
