The automotive industry is changing fast. Covid shutdowns paired with tons of new technology are forcing an evolution -- one which many dealers are not equipped to handle. 

There is no denying it. things are bad. It’s estimated that all automakers have lost almost 6.5 billion vehicles as a result of the chip shortage. Photos of parking lots full of mostly built vehicles are circulating around the internet. They are ready to go, except for the chips.

Auto subscription services aren’t exactly something new. The first known service was started in Honolulu in 2010, but we’ve come a long way since Rima Braden Autosource’s “Flexlease” program. 

So here we are…2021. We finally made it out of 2020!  Does that mean the auto biz will get better? Well for the auto industry, business  has been on an upswing for months.

The Perfect Storm

As Covid-19 pushes the auto industry and the world forward digitally, video is becoming more and more important. Consumers still want to feel connected to retailers and the products, in our case cars, they’re buying. But, they want to do it from a safe distance.

It is somewhat old news now that plant shutdowns and virus spikes all over the world have caused production to plummet. Like many things, the effects of shutdowns that began in Q1 have leaked into Q3, continuing to cause issues. Production halts that happened months ago are still being felt by dealers who haven’t had a whole lot of new inventory come onto their lots.
